Algiers

For several centuries Algeria and its Amazigh (Berber) population were ruled by the Romans, who founded many colonies in the region. Algeria was  the breadbaskets of the Roman empire.

Then In the early 16th century, Spain constructed fortified outposts. The region of Algeria was partially ruled by Ottomans for three centuries from 1516 to 1830, and finally, Algeria became a major French colony from 1830 to 1962. All this history gives Algeria a unique cultural world heritage. With its rather unique history, Algeria is a melting pot of Mediterranean cultures producing an intriguing culinary heritage.
